The Boy is overdue at the dentist's for a cleaning. Also, he now has four new teeth growing in, but the four original teeth did not feel that was any kind of reason to leave -- they have just kind of moved aside. So he's now got rows of teeth going on.
For some reason, God does not want The Boy to go to the dentist. When he had his last cleaning (last winter!), I made an appointment for July. And then it turned out that was the week he'd be away for Scout Camp. So I called to change the appointment. But that one was a Bad Idea because it was a Monday in summer, when I really cannot take off of work. So I called to change it, to this coming Friday. But now The Boy's father tells me that The Boy will be spending a few days with his grandparents then. So I called to change the appointment, to the next Friday. And I got clearance from my boss to leave early that day. But now I've just gotten a notice from The Boy's summer day camp that the field trip that they had planned for that Thursday, is now moved to that Friday. So if The Boy goes to day camp that day (which, you know, he has to do if I'm going to go to work), he will be at Fenway Park all day, and quite unable to be picked up in the afternoon to go to the dentist.
Why does God not want The Boy to go to the dentist?

Chapter 29
*Sigh*
Need to stop now. Going to sis' house for a bit. Can I finish tonight?
Eh -- who needs sleep?

Day Two
Could no longer stay awake and had to sleep at around 11:00 pm. Awoke around 9:00 this morning and resumed reading. Have had coffee. Very hungry, but no food yet. Made plans with sister. Must leave house at 3:00 pm. Must clean a bit before then. Stopping to fix snack, now, then more reading.
Currently on page 432.

SQUEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm at work (in the summer we have to work some weekends as it is our 'peak' season) until 1pm today.
The Boy just called.
Boy Scout Camp just ended, and he and his dad are in the car, heading home.
They're still in New Hampshire, have to drive down to the grandparents' house to pick up his cat Gabriel
(who, incidently, does not actually look like Bill the Cat), then back to dad's house. And my boy missed me and HAD to call me NOW.
He had a great time: he shot a rifle, 15 bullets, eleven of which hit the target. Shooting a rifle is better than archery, TV and video games combined (yeah...f'ing great, huh?); the bathroom was filthy, the shower was filthy, the cot was a joke, and he will be very happy to get back to his home and his bed and clean bathroom and clean clothes. And one of his friends got bit by a poisonous spider and had to go to hospital (!!), but was treated and came back to camp. And he missed me and thought of me and Gabriel every day and can't wait to see me today! And we're going to go see Harry Potter tonight!!
I've missed him SOOOOOOOOOO much. And now I'm so happy and excited that I want to cry!!!

EDIT: Boy is home. He looks to be about eleventy inches taller, and very, very tanned. The dad tells me that Boy has been wearing the same shirt since Wednesday, claiming that he couldn't find another. Ironically, it's a Tshirt that reads: SAME SHIRT, DIFFERENT DAY. So at least it was accurate.

So...this week
Went to the wake on Friday night. And the funeral Saturday. A funeral for a 16 year old sucks quite as much as one would imagine it would. One of his classmates gave the eulogy, and was amazing. He spoke so well of Matt, made everyone laugh, and cry. And had such composure. Surely I could never do so well a job, and I'm more than twice that boy's age.
In other news, the Boy is off on a Boy Scout camping trip. All week. Since Saturday. I miss him!!! But the Boy's dad called me tonight to give me an update (Dad is an assistant scout leader, and is on the trip, too). Boy is getting along well, some of the other 'first year' boys have cried because they are homesick. Not the Boy, though. (Of course, his Dad being there might be helping there, huh?) He is eating well and sleeping well, not doing so well in archery, but well in rifle shooting. I KNOW--My kid is shooting guns!! *sigh* I don't quite like that. Fuckin' Boy Scouts.
In any case, he will be home Saturday. And I SO can't wait to go see Harry Potter with him on Sunday!
