A Change Will Do Me Good

Don't be alarmed. It's still me.

I needed a change. New blog template. Of course, I'm at work and don't have the time to go in and fix my links and personalizations right now. I'll get to that as soon as I can.

Lolly lolly lolly

get your adverbs here!

I've decided that there are just too many 'Laurie's here in Bloggerland. So I've changed my id name to 'Lolly'. I know, not terribly exciting.

A man absolutely hated his wife's cat...

...and decided to get rid of him one day by driving him 20 blocks from his home and leaving him at the park.

As he was getting home, the cat was walking up the driveway.

The next day he decided to drive the cat 40 blocks away. He put
the beast out and headed home.

Driving back up his driveway, there was the cat!

He kept taking the cat further and further and the cat would
always beat him home. At last he decided to drive a few miles away, turn right, then left, past the bridge, then right again and another right until he reached what he thought was a safe distance from his home and left the cat there.

Hours later the man calls home to his wife: "Jen, is the cat there?"

"Yes," the wife answers, "why do you ask?"

Frustrated, the man answered, "Put that son of a ***** on the phone, I'm lost! and need directions!"

If only I really looked this good

And had a penguin.

Stolen from Helen and Jenn

.
Book meme: Grab nearest book, open to page 123 and give us sentences 5 thru 7.

"Charming rural folk," said Milo, as we got back in the unmarked. "Is that the theme from Deliverance I hear wafting through the piney woods?"

"Should've brought my guitar."

Shawn Hornbeck again

.
I'm hearing that some of John Q. Public are asking questions and passing judgement. "He was left unsupervised; why didn't he try to escape?" "He had access to the internet; why didn't he make contact to get help?" "He's selfish to put his parents through that when he had the chance to get away." (Can you BELIEVE that one???) "This is fishy; it doesn't add up."

Folks, I've got some questions for you: Were you kidnapped as a child; ripped away from any love and safety and security you had, and kept without it for years? What lies did your kidnapper tell you? Were you afraid of him? Did he threaten you? What did you have to do to survive? Oh, yeah...it didn't happen to you. Yes, it may be puzzling to you to think that he had chances to get away and didn't. But if you haven't been in that situation, you cannot begin to imagine what it was like, what his frame of mind was, how afraid he was. You have no insight as to his perspective. You have absolutely no room to pass judgement. So shut the Hell up.

Just Amazing

.
Two Missing Missouri Boys Found Alive, One Missing Since 2002

I heard briefly about this last night, and I've just been watching the news conference that Shawn Hornbeck's parents held this morning. As his stepfather spoke to the media, he and his mom sat next to him, and Shawn often leaned in and spoke quietly to his mother. All I can think is: this boy was 11 when he disappeared. My boy will be 11 in a few months. I am watching this 15 year old boy, who is now taller than his mom, and I just cannot imagine what this has been like for them. Thank God he's been found. Thank God he's ok. (Of course, I have no idea what he's been through and how he is inside. But physically he's ok, and I'm watching him sitting next to his mom, calm and smiling and talking to her quietly. He is at least 'ok'.)

I'm sure there are a lot more profound things that could be said about this. I don't have those words.

Look at how much he's changed:

2002

This morning.

I am overjoyed for this family. My heart also goes out to them, for all the lost time and for whatever pain Shawn has been through and will need to recover from.

I have not heard as much about the other boy, Ben Ownby. I understand he'd been missing 5 days. The school bus dropped him off at his home, and the last that was seen of him was him walking up his driveway. An angel on the bus saw a white truck, and was able to describe it to the police. And that is what directly led to the discovery of these two boys.

God bless them all.

Edited to Add:

I can't stop thinking about this and am continually trolling the internet for new and old stories about this. And it is reminding me so much of the Steven Stayner case. I hope that Shawn will have a wonderful life now that he is back with his family.

1/15 Edited again:

This is now on the website that was set up for the search for Shawn, www.shawnhornbeck.com

Aren't those just the most fabulous words EVER written?

Big News!

My website, www.LollyBeads.com, is up and running. I've had shops at Etsy (which I'll still be keeping for a while) for almost a year now to sell my little jewelry; and I've been learning html and tinkering with building my own web shop since the summer. It's finally all ready! I'm rather excited about it.

Also, if anyone would be interested in posting a banner for the shop in the sidebar of their blog or on some other web site they own, www.lollybeads.com I could pay you with a free bracelet. Please contact me either in a PM or email me: service(at)lollybeads.com; I will send you the code.

Thanks!

(I know I already posted this on the WD, but I wanted to do it here too, in case I have other readers here. Trying to get maximum exposure, and all.)
