I am going to Dragon*Con!!!!! I had previously had my eye on the Creation Entertainment Firefly Con in CA, but at the last minute, Dragon*Con suddenly got much more attractive (Nathan and Alan signed on this week), and much more doable. Creation would have been significantly more money, we would have had to spend WHOLE DAYS traveling (MA to CA, and especially back again, is a BITCH), and The Boy would have had to miss two days of school. For Dragon*Con, it is less money, MUCH easier traveling as it's on the East Coast, it takes place before school starts so The Boy doesn't have to miss school, and did happen to mention that Nathan and Alan are going to be there? Wheee!! So I just booked my flight, my hotel, and bought my tickets to the convention. Here are the Whedon events planned. (This does not even include all of the other five million events at the con.)
Because I'm doing this so last-minute, there is not even a snowball's chance in Hell of finding a hotel in and around the festivities. But I found a Sheraton which has free shuttle service to the MARTA (trains), which will take us directly to the convention in 20 minutes.
ONE problem I haven't been able to think of a solution for yet. Perhaps someone more wise and experienced at travel can suggest something? Here's the problem: Monday is our last day there. There are some events Monday afternoon I would like to attend. Our flight home is at 8pm. BUT check out time at the hotel is noon. What do I do with all my stuff all day?
In conclusion, squeee!!!, Super-Squeee!!!, Super-Duper-SQUEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, EPIC-FANTASTIC-SQUEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am envious. But despite my envy, I can help you with your problem. Simply ask the Sheraton to hold your bags for you until it is time to leave. Most hotels will put them in a storage area for you to pick up later.
I, too, was going to suggest asking the hotel to help you. You could call now to inquire, or simply ask the concierge or check-in people when you arrive.
Ummm...so anyway, my birthday is just a few weeks before I'm going to see you in California...and I was thinking, an Nathan's autograph would make a GREAT birthday present....ummmm...just saying [grin].
I'm delighted you have exciting news after a rash of really sad news.
Reasons to Squeeee are always a good thing.
1. My first reaction? A seething, muttered, "That bitch!" But I'm really very, very happy for you.
2. Call the hotel tomorrow and ask if they'll hold your luggage. If they say no (But they'll probably say yes.), enroll in their loyalty membership stay program online if you aren't already a member. (I think it's called Starwood Preferred Guest.) When you check in, tell them you're a member and you'll need to store your baggage for a few hours after check out. If they still refuse, ask to see the general manager -- NOT the manager on duty.
(3)Go to the "OMWF" viewings every chance you get if they're sing-a-longs. You will have the time of your life.
(4)Be sure to give us a full recap when you return.
I am squeeeing on your behalf! Yay!
You're going to see Tahmoh Penikett! *does teenage fangirl squeeing* Would you please wrap him up and send him over to England for me?
Am so very jealous!
I am DYING OF JEALOUSY. You had better enjoy yourself enough for the both of us, woman!
