New Shoes
Went to the store and bought the new clown shoes sneakers for The Boy. (His words, not mine.)

Holy Feet, Batman!
The Boy's feet have been hurting him, and that usually means he needs new sneakers, either because the ones he has are too small, or not supportive enough. He insists the 10 1/2 fits, but I'm not convinced. I traced his feet tonight, with the idea that I can cut out his paper feet and put them in those sizing things at the shoe store to confirm his size. And once I traced them, the massiveness that is his feet became very apparent. So much so, that he asked me if I had his baby footprints, so we could compare them.
Here they are. Remember, he's only 12 years old.
We could barely fit each foot on a standard sheet of 8 1/2 x 11 piece of paper; I had him stand corner to corner. Then I cut them out and scanned them, and also scanned the baby footprints, then put them all together for the above picture. Each cut-out foot barely fit on the bed of the scanner. To keep everything to scale, I also scanned a ruler with each of them, and matched them all up for the composite picture. On the ruler, the 1" and 11" are marked (because the 0 and 12 are not in the picture).
His feet are nearly as large as his father's. They are bigger than my father's. And he's still only 5'4" tall.
I really hopes he grows into them!

Star quilt
This is the quilt I talked about yesterday. I made it for The Boy's bed, when he had a wee toddler bed. When he moved to a regular sized bed, I reconstructed it to fit, but I never liked how that turned out. I took it apart when he stopped using it, knowing that 'someday' I would put it back to it's original state (well, with a better backing than originally). That day was today.
This is a simple quilt of two cotton fabrics arranged in 10" squares, for a total size of 50"x 70". The fabrics are a plain pale yellow, and a pale blue with pale yellow shooting stars. Unfortunately I didn't get a good close-up pic to show you that. Today I backed the quilt with a pale yellow flannel that matches the original yellow color pretty well, and bound it with more of the plain yellow cotton. I used a low loft poly batting and hand tied it with yellow embroidery thread.
This cold snap better end soon, or I think I will end up making 10 more quilts!

Finished!
My new flannel quilt. All of these flannels are special, they are all from our old shirts and jammies. The back is plain navy blue flannel, the binding is a mix of all the flannels, and it is hand-tied with navy blue embroidery thread.
Tomorrow I am working on another one. This was one I had made with Jake was little, for his toddler bed, very simple with just two fabrics in 10 inch squares. Then when he moved to a regular sized bed, I added to the edges to make it bigger. But I never liked how that turned out, and once he didn't use it any more, I took it back apart. So the lonely little quilt top has been sitting, nicely folded, in my fabric drawer for too many years. All it needs it to be tied to a new backing with new batting, and then bound.

12 of 12 - January
Ok, let's try this again. Last year at this time I joined Chad Darnell's 12 of 12, but I sadly only made it through four months. Slacker. But I'm giving it another go now. :D
These were all taken at home, on what might be the most boring day on record. *blush*

I totally forgot to take my camera outside with me while waiting for The Boy's schoolbus. Damn it. But when I came back inside, here was the package I needed to mail this morning, which I also forgot to take out with me to mail. So, back outside I go.

This umbrella has been in the corner of the hall of my building for at least a month, now. I am starting to believe that no one is going to claim it. Is it yours?

This is from one of the ten winning video applications for the Evil League of Evil, that appear on the Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog DVD. Seriously, if you don't have this DVD yet, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? (Unless you're in the UK and it's not available yet.)

New purse! Wheee!
I went to the Wilson Leather site last week because I cannot find any of my leather gloves. (Well, I found ONE, but that doesn't really help me, does it?) I really prefer leather gloves over knit, especially when I'm driving, as the knit ones slip in the steering wheel. Leather gloves were on sale, so I ordered some, and while I was there, I noticed they were having a 60% off clearance sale on some items, too. How does one resist that? I found a lovely red leather purse, originally priced at $60, lowered to $24.99, and then in the clearance section for $10.00. Again, how does one resist that?
It arrived today. It is so much nicer in person than in the picture on the site, and I apologize for being too lazy to go take some pictures myself, and only providing you with this picture from the site:
It is not too big, but is roomy inside, with just the right number of pockets for cell phone, etc. And...when I go back to their site now, it is no longer on clearance; it's now $24.99 again. That just makes it all the more joyous. Yay!

Haha!
And in other news, I CANNOT stop listening to Commentary! The Musical. I thought The Boy was getting sick of it, but today he put it on himself. He's been sucked in! Seriously, if you have not bought the Dr. Horrible DVD yet, you must go buy it now!! (Well, if you're in the US, I mean. I know it was delayed in Canadia and is not available yet in the UK. But buy it as soon as you can!!)
