The Sunflower Forest
.
As I've mentioned before, I've been revisting the books of Torey Hayden (and discovering new ones, too, as it's been 10 or 12 years since I've read anything of hers). She even has a website now. I few weeks ago I read on the site how The Sunflower Forest was no longer in print in English. I immediately yearned for the book. I had read it once, maybe 16 or 17 years ago, but I never owned it. Now I had to have it. It was her first novel (most of her books are factual). Last week I found one on an internet auction, in England, and paid a ridiculous amount of money for it. I began reading it as soon as I got it. I've been reading it every day.
But I'd forgotten. I'd forgotten the horrible tragedy that happens somewhere past the half-way point of the book, until I just read it again tonight. And, oh, how it made me cry! I kept reading. I wanted to get the book finshed and over with now. But I had to stop, because it was just too much for one day. I'll have to take it up again tomorrow. I definately want to finish it, but, yikes, it's going to be hard to get through.
After I finish it this time, I will definately keep the book. But maybe I'll wait another 15 years or so to read it again.

Arrgghhh!!!
Today was a 1/2 day of school so the boy went to the after-school-care place after school. I just picked him up. Some little BITCH called him a name while he was there today. It's upset him. A LOT. He's crying. He's extremely upset and doesn't want to talk about it. VERY upset. I want to go kill the bitch. I want to rip her tongue out. I want to call her mother and yell at her and tell her what an evil bitch her little girl is.
But as of right now, I'm just writing in my blog to try to vent some of this out.
(Any suggestions on what to do or any offers of a hit would be appreciated.)

I'm going to cry now
.
I just wrote this Big Ass reply to a post in Meghan's blog, about things needed for baby. It took me a long time to write. And then I hit 'preview'. And then the blog told me that new replies were temporarily disabled. And then I went to copy what I wrote to save it for later. But it was GONE.
Gone.
Gone.
And now I have to go make supper for the boy.
I hope I remember later what I wanted to tell Meghan.

It's here!
.
I know, I've already used that title this week. But something else came.
Ever since Helen showed us her Gorgeous Opal Ring (tm), I haven't been able to rest until I found myself a Gorgeous Opal Ring (tm), too. I finally found THE one I had to have, and got it on auction. It arrived today:

It's here!
My Serenity DVD, that is.
And my Cry Wolf and Titus DVDs.
And my The Tiger's Child book.
I hardly know what to do first.

My new year's eve
The boy and I ended up watching all 6 Star Wars movies. Well, 5 last night. We literally ran out of time and had to watch the 6th one -- which I always knew as the 3rd one -- today.
Also, the boy finally agreed to let me teach him how to play poker on Friday. We started out with 5 card draw. He caught on pretty quick. He knows what to do and when, and as he's got a great head for math, had no trouble at all figuring out how much to throw in after someone reraises him. Cool beans. However, I don't consider myself the best player, so when he had 5 crappy cards and asked me what the best way was to proceed, I'm not so sure I'm the best authority to give advice at that point. But that's the part he'll figure out as he goes. So anyhoo, as is common with him, he couldn't just have me and him play. He had to invite his favorite stuffed animals to play with us last night for new year's eve. So Simba (the tiger), Jason (the jaguar) and Mr. Bear (do I really have to spell this one out?) played with us. Really. I helped Jason deal and helped him with his cards, and the boy helped the other two.
After a while, I threw in some Texas hold'em. At first it really confused the boy, but after the second attempt, he got it. He then said he didn't want to play any more Texas hold'em, and went back to five card draw when he dealt. However, the next time Simba dealt, he switched back to Texas hold'em, and we played both games for the rest of the night.
So, as I said, I played poker with 4 new players who I had just taught how to play...and I was the first one knocked out. Then Jason (whom I'd been helping) got knocked out. So the boy and his two other animals, who'd never played before, were all that were left.
I pointed this out to him, and he laughed and said, "yeah, the student has surpassed the master already!" Either he's going to be REALLY good, or I'm much worse than I thought I was.
Also, Bon Jovi was on Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve (a pre-taped bit, but still great). Did anyone see Dick Clark? His speech was really affected by the stroke. And he was in the studio, not at Times Square. It was sad.
And I did SIX loads of laundry today!
Like a kid in a candy store

I just figured out how to post audio files on a website, so they're available to me on the web. And I just went nuts downloading TONS of Serenity/Firefly audio clips onto my PC, to upload to my site later.
Now if I can just figure out how to get them on this blog...
*****EDIT*****EDIT*****EDIT*****EDIT***** EDIT *****
I just made a list of links on my sidebar, called 'Sound Bytes'. I know when I click on a link, it automatically opens my Windows Media Player so the bit will play. I've NO idea if this will work for anyone else. So please let me know if this does or doesn't work for you.
Thanks!
